Virtual Therapy: Tweens

Virtual Therapy for Tweens

How do I know if Online Therapy will work for my Tween?

what to expect

Your tween will have an online therapy experience crafted to meet their unique set of needs, personality traits and attention span.

Our therapists aren’t afraid to get creative! We’ll use a combination of verbal communication, arts & crafts, storytelling, movement and even online tools to meet our therapy goals.

Your tween’s therapist will connect with you ahead of time if there are any materials to be gathered and/or set up. Typical things you may be asked to gather:

  • Paper

  • Crayons, colored pencils and/or markers

  • Scissors

  • Glue

  • Small assortment of toys

  • Playdoh

  • Printed materials your therapist emailed to you in advance

You may be asked to prepare by:

  • Setting up a split screen view of the therapist

  • Logging in to a private, online whiteboard

  • Pre-loading a game

flexible scheduling

One significant difference we find with online therapy is that we can easily tailor session length and frequency to your child’s needs, thereby maximizing treatment effectiveness.

This means that if your tween would benefit from multiple sessions per week that are only 15 minutes in length - we can do that!

Or perhaps your child has a 30 minute play therapy session on Monday afternoon followed by a 30 minute parent session on Wednesday evening.

And all without the extra hassle of driving into an office.

caregiver participation

Chances are, soon after getting the online session started, your tween will politely invite you to exit stage left. If that’s the case, then all you need to do is remain available by phone in the event that your presence in the room is needed again.

Your therapist will follow up either at the end of session or will schedule a separate time to check-in with you.

location

Our therapists are licensed to provide therapy in Maryland, DC, and/or Virginia. As per telehealth regulations, you must be physically located where your therapist is licensed at the time of your session.
